Touched by an Angel

I was working part-time as a cashier in a health food store, making minimum wage and not very happy with my situation. My pride and quick temper had just cost me a good-paying job and I was merely filling time with this job until something better came along.

One spring morning a man walked in who looked like your typical bum off the street. His hair was disheveled; his clothes tattered; and he had on a pair of glasses that looked like they’d been through a war. He had a pleasant air about him, though, and I wasn’t afraid of him at all.

He asked me if he could do a little outside cleanup work in exchange for a few badly needed dollars. The store manager shook her head, so I had to tell him “No.” He then started to tell me why he needed the money, and about that time something within me stirred.

“How much money do you need?” I asked.

“Eight dollars,” he answered.

“Just a minute,” I said. Since he was the only customer in the store, I excused myself for a moment to check the contents of my wallet. Guess how much I found in there?  Yup, I had exactly eight dollars in my wallet.

I didn’t hesitate. I grabbed that eight dollars out of my wallet and handed it over to the man without a second thought. Suddenly all my cares and concerns of the week vanished. I felt a rush of love and compassion for this stranger, and felt his love and gratitude in return. He thanked me, shook my hand and turned to leave.

Then the strangest thing happened.

The feeling came over me that this man was sent to me from God, and I would know it because the man would give me a sign…he would shake my hand not once, but three times.

After shaking my hand the first time, the man turned to leave and then stopped. He turned back, expressed more thanks, and then shook my hand again.

He turned to leave again, and then turned back one more time. He looked me straight in the eye, shook my hand a third time, and said, “God Bless You.” After that he left.

Words can’t begin to describe how I felt at that moment — it was truly divine!

Not long after that I quit my job, moved to a new location, met the man who is now my husband, got married, and everything changed for me forever… all in just one year…1997…the year I was touched by an angel.

Think it can’t happen to you? Think again!

Man’s best friend

New Year’s Day was cold, so Sharon and I were happy to be settled inside. Then suddenly I heard a dog bark.
“That’s not Abe,” I said. Our elderly Labrador wasn’t a barker.
A strange dog ran up to the glass door. He jumped and barked loudly. Hum, we have a six foot stockade fence and the gate was latched. The fence had no holes. How could he have gotten into the yard I thought?
Then I heard a whimper from the canal that ran through our yard. “Abe!” Our poor old Lab had fallen off our dock and had no way out!
Sharon and I got Abe out of the water and safely inside. We toweled him off and warmed him with a blow dryer until he stopped shivering.
I looked everywhere for the stray that had saved Abe’s life, but he was nowhere to be found. To this day, I can’t explain how he got into our yard or, for that matter, back out again.

An Angel During the Holocaust

During the Holocaust, my mother was a young woman with a small son. They were refugees in Russia having fled from the Nazi’s in Poland.

My mother did everything she could in order to feed both herself and her son, who went to bed each night with a small crust of bread under his pillow. She had traded goods in the black market for some material, with this she intended to get food from a nearby farm.

When she reached the farm, the people were very kind. They fed her and filled her small sled with wonderful grains and vegetables. She was elated.

When she was headed home it started to snow so heavily that the small sled became stuck, and she was unable to move any further. God she prayed, please help us, what will happen to my little boy, please protect him.

Suddenly a large sled with a horse appeared. The man in the sled had a fur covering his legs and ice hanging from his handle bar moustache. What are you doing here he asked… where do you live? My mother couldn’t believe her luck. He took her along with her small sled and food right to her door. It was only right to invite him in for some hot tea. When she turned around to thank him and invite him in, he was gone. No trace of him could be found.

My mother is convinced he was her angel and the answer to her prayer and so do I.

Amazing Grace

Amazing Grace

Several years ago, my husband was seriously ill.  He had been hospitalized many times and we knew that his time was short. I would stay with him day and night in his hospital room.

One particular night, he was feeling very low and tried to tell me that he felt so alone and like no one cared. I tried to convince him that he was not alone, that God knew where he was and loved him.

About three o’clock in the morning, the door to his hospital room opened and in walked what I thought was a nurse. She went to his bedside and called him by his nickname, a name only his close family and friends knew. She told him that God was there with him and that He loved him dearly. She asked what his favorite song was and he told her, Amazing Grace.  There in the early morning hours she began to sing, her voice was so lovely it seemed to fill the room. Tears rolled down my face as well as my husband’s.  You could feel the love radiating in the whole room as she sang. She finished the song and without saying a word, turned and walked quietly out of the room.

I wanted to thank her for her kindness and followed her out into the hall. The hallway was empty and there was no one in sight. I waited for a few minutes because I thought that maybe she had gone into another room.

Finally, I went to the nurse’s station and asked to speak with the nurse that came into our room. The nurse on duty said she was the only one assigned to those rooms. Right then I knew that God had sent one of his angels to comfort us in our time of need.

Gene has gone home now, but when things get hard for me, I can feel the Love of God and his angels around us. I thank God for His love and the care of angels.

I am always reminded of His Amazing Grace.

A Friend

Friend Request

My name is Amber and I am 17 years old.
Back when I was about 11 years old, I went to a Bible Camp. I was at the awkward stage of my life and I was pretty much an outcast. No one wanted anything to do with me and I didn’t know ANYONE. Every night Id fall asleep crying… ”This is supposed to be my fun summer and I have no one to share it with. I want to go home.”

Well, one night while I lay in bed I said… “God, You brought me to this camp for a reason, I have no friends, no one to help me through this, please send me someone.”

The next day I went swimming as I always did, then I went over and sat down on the swings for a while. About 5 minutes later this girl named Sammy came over. She looked at me for a moment and then sat down beside me… “Are you Amber?” she asked. “Yes I am” I replied. She just kept looking at me, and then asked if I would like to go paint in the church for a while. We hung out everyday after that and would sit on the cabin stairs at night talking about God.

I finally mustered up the courage to ask… “How did you know my name a few days ago? No one here knows me”. She looked at me and it seemed she was about to cry… “I saw you and God told me that you were alone and needed some help, He said your name was Amber”. I was completely baffled.

Eventually, the day came to say goodbye and I frantically ran around trying to find Sammy.  I wanted to show her off to my mom and say… “look mom I made a friend and she’s wonderful!”  But Sammy was nowhere to be found.

I asked my camp advisor Christy where Sammy had gone.  “Sammy?” She said. “Yes, my friend Sammy, the girl with the brown hair that I used to play with”.  She looked at me and my parents for a few seconds, some what puzzled.  She then took me by the hand, down to the big oak tree by the swings.  She whispered, “Amber, I don’t want you to be confused, but Sammy stopped coming to camp a while ago.”  “Why?” I asked.  “Sammy was in a car accident 4 years ago, she isn’t alive anymore”.

I was too young to really understand what was going on, but from that day forward, I honestly believed that God had sent me a friend from Heaven.
